It was firstly reported by I.G. Loscertales (Yflow® SD´s CSO and Founder) et al. in 2002 (Science). It was patented and some applications licensed by Yflow® in 2002. In 2004 it was recognized as one of the 40 most relevant inventions of the year by C&EN Magazine (Chemical & Engineering News). The know-how developed by Yflow® on this technology allowed the company to design and produce core-shell particles and fibers from 50nm up to 10mm. The versatility of the technology attracted the interest of numerous multinational companies such as Phillip Morris, Airbus Military and Kraft Foods among others, which collaborated with Yflow® SD to develop specific products for each of them.

As a cross-cutting technology, Microencapsulation can find its niche at every sectors of the industry (textile industry, buildings, cosmetics, chemicals, food, cosmetics, agro, pharmaceuticals or medicine).

The number of applications go on increasing day after day (i.e. carbonless copy paper, e-ink, essential oils and flavours, pesticides and herbicides, phase chage materials, powder perfume, self healing materials, textiles, temperature/humidity release, Drug delivery, nanosensors (visual or sounding indicators), nanowires,…).

Yflow® R&D Microencapsulation Service is the most important Yflow® Services. This service allow to microencapsulate any kind of chemicals (in any format) in polymeric materials by using Yflow® Coaxial Electrospinning & Electrospraying either alone or in combination with any other technique. It is well known that Yflow® Coaxial Electrospinning & Electrospraying Tech. are promising techniques to fabricate novel micro and nanostructured materials applied to a wide variety of applications and sectors, and one of the main application is the microencapsulation.
